The Association of Independent Industrial Museums and Heritage Sites of Scotland (AIIMHS) represents independent organisations that care for and present the achievements of Scotland's industrial past. Radical changes in the second half of the 20th century swept away many of Scotland's oldest established industries, and these sites now uniquely offer insights into the enterprise and ingenuity that built a nation. Each has unique collections of buildings, objects and archives, surviving witness to a proud hard working past.
Collections at all the museum sites are separately recognised by the Scottish Government as being of national significance to Scotland.
Each site has archives which can be of use to family historians, and each presents its industry to show how it shaped the lives of working people. Every one welcomes visitors, and especially those whose ancestors may have worked in that industry.
